How to Market to each generation on Social Media

A lot of people post on social media which means an increase in the number of people using it. Some see this as a good thing because social media is a way to interact with other people and make connections. However, there are others who are not so happy with the fact that social media has become such a widely used platform.

Understanding the four generations is important in order to market a product or service to them effectively.

Generation Z, or post-millennials, are the youngest generation according to Pew Research Center. They are born between 1993 and 2010, and represent 25% of the population. Millennials are individuals born between 1980 and 1994 (ages 23-37).

Generation X is any person born between 1965 and 1979 (ages 38-53), Baby Boomers are individuals born from 1946 through 1964 (ages 54-72), and finally those who were born before 1946 make up the Silent Generation.

The content needs to be tailored to each generation because they all have different interests, different social media use cases, different levels of tech familiarity, etcetera.

There are currently 2.3 billion active social media users in the world.
